I saw this movie last night at a blind screening at our local theater complex
I probably wouldn’t have decided to watch it if I knew what it was, but I’m thankful I did. The poignant, honest portraits of some of the program’s participants (notably Clarence McLean and Sean Johnson), as well as the work of Colman Domingo, are her strengths. Filming and directing contribute to the sincerity of the performances, not burdening them and applying an approach that creates the impression that the viewer is witnessing conversations and events, rather than absorbing them.
It makes you think
Underrated. Sincerity. Not perfect, but very well done.
